Assault the Dawn Thaleia looked out over the barren expanse of rock as the assault vehicle trundled along the frigid wasteland. As the terrain flashed by she put a pair of infrared distancing goggles to her eyes and sighted the emplacement holding the Array Element on the horizon. It loomed ominously out of the stark white limestone traced with lichen, an imposing structure of purple. She could recognise the outlines of a barracks along the leading edge of the curtain wall. Gun emplacements could be seen scattered around the perimeter. "Wow," she murmured," this is more than anticipated." Vehicles streaked towards the base, under the cover of a preparatory barrage. Thaleia could see other assault vehicles opening fire upon the array. Return fire from the array became increasingly sporadic as the defenders were wheedled out one by one from cover. However, was not without a cost as her vehicle passed the burned out hulks of Jihad vehicles. Finally, her vehicle which had been held back because it had the techs screeched to a halt in front of the array. As they piled out, the ECM team blew their way through the primitive security on the blast doors and the techs moved in. The team leader led the way through the maze of corridors to the central computer stations. Thaleia and her friends sat down at the computer terminals and got down to business. One by one, her teammates gave sighs of disgust and gave up as damage from the initial assault proved to have damaged files containing information that was relevant until only Thaleia had not been stopped by damage. She could hear the mutters from behind her. "Stupid grunts used too much power! They destroyed almost everything!" "Yeah! I got about two levels deep and then the computer blew up in my face!" "Look! Just shut up already! I'm into the High Command files now," shouted Thaleia s stopped and checked the files again. "How interesting," she said, "There's not a single fracking thing on the array elements here!" "Run a system search." suggested another tech. "Already doing so," she replied, "Any information only appears in low level files, and only briefly. And the Purple High Command is wondering what we're doing! What about them?!?" Another tech sat down beside her. "How about a resource trace?" he asked. "Good idea. I'll take equipment, you take personnel." 10 minutes later.... Her commander sat down beside her and the other tech. "I got your call. What's up?" "Well-l-l," said Thaleia, "There's an amazing amount of personnel movement but absolutely nothing in the way of equipm they've got the army but they don't have the tools to finish the job." "Also," chimed in the other tech, "All this activity seems to be centred around the activities of a few higher ups whose names we couldn't discover." "Frankly," said Thaleia, "higher-ups is a bit vague of a term for it. The top level files we found don't even mention this activity. You know B'harnese forces - everything has to be centralized, so the ones giving the orders have complete control and everyone knows who's in charge. But this seems to be a break in the pattern. "Good work." said her base commander, "Unfortunately for me, I've got news." "What?" she asked. "Well it seems you'll be making a little trip Trooper. I've orders from Dobe HQ to send you down there. It seems they think you will be useful to the in a special strike force luck. I have a feeling you'll need it." The next morning...... Thaleia looked through the cockpit of an A.S.S.V.A.K.T [1]. assault fighter as she mentally made sure she had everything she thought she would require in her black duffel bag stowed away behind her. She had just got orders direct from Dobe HQ to pick up one Colonel Rick Sanford of the Legion of Doom in New York and bring him to Kansas with her.
